The Emerald Grotto
Located in Conca dei Marini, the Emerald Grotto is one of the most beautiful places to see in Positano, but also one of the most famous caves on the Amalfi Coast. According to tradition, the first who discovered this marine cavity was a fisherman, Luigi Buonocore. The inlet owes its name to the spectacular emerald, green colors reflections that dye the water when the sun filters into the cave through an underwater fissure. The marvels of this cave, however, do not end with the suggestive plays of light that have made it famous: visitors who come here for the first time, in fact, are fascinated by the magical atmosphere created inside the cavity by the alternation of stalactites and stalagmites which give life to superb limestone columns. Since 1956 on the bottom of the cave it is also possible to admire an underwater nativity scene.
